Leicester is a busy city with some tricky junctions to get the hang of. But don’t fear - learning here will give you valuable experience on a variety of roads, which is sure to come in handy once you’ve passed your test!
Glen Parva is a great little area to begin in. There are plenty of simple straight roads, like Cork Lane, where you can practise moving off and stopping. There might be the odd parked car around which you can practise parallel parking, once you’ve gained some experience. The only thing to look out for is the school rush, with Glen Hills Primary School nearby.
The small village of Scraptoft, on the edge of Leicester, is a good place to practise manoeuvres like your three-point-turn, or emergency stop. And as a bonus, it leads out onto winding country roads. There you can get used to narrow lanes and sudden turns, whilst also looking out for hazards like horses, wildlife, and other road users.
If you’re looking for a greater challenge, get onto the A563. There are plenty of roundabouts along it, including one with six exits near Tudor Grange Samworth Academy. If you keep following the A563 east you’ll get to where the M1 meets the M69. You’re able to take to the motorway if you’re with your instructor, or if you’ve already passed your test. But of course, you don’t have to if you’re not feeling ready!
Manual lessons aren’t what everyone’s looking for, so we also offer automatic lessons in Leicester.
Everyone’s different when it comes to driving, so make sure that you think carefully about which type of lessons you’d like to take. There’s less to get your head around with automatic lessons, but this type of licence will only allow you to drive an automatic car. On the other hand, a manual licence qualifies you to drive both types of vehicle and the lessons tend to be cheaper too.
If you’re going to be stuck in a lot of traffic around Leicester you might prefer an automatic, as you won’t have to be constantly changing gears. Like automatic lessons though, automatic cars are more expensive than manual ones, so you’ll have to bear that in mind. The decision is ultimately yours!

We know the feeling: the DVSA says the average learner takes 45 hours of lessons before passing the driving test. But that seems like a lot. Do you really need that many?
Here’s the secret to passing faster:
Get Driving learners pass in 17 fewer hours than the UK average, so you’ll probably only need around 30 hours. But whichever package you choose, you can top up by the hour if you need a bit longer, or get a refund on any unused hours if you pass faster.
If you take the average number of lessons (47) and multiply it by the cost of the average lesson (£24), you’ll see that the total cost of lessons is around £1,128.
Who knows what you could buy with that amount of money. A TV? A better bed? You don’t want to spend that much on learning to drive, and we don’t want you to either.
Get Driving learners save 35% compared to learning with a traditional driving school, simply by passing faster.
And that’s not all. You can also enjoy:
